mc ilm tier rm

The mc ilm tier rm command removes an remote tier that has not been used to transition any objects.

The mc ilm tier remove command has equivalent functionality to mc ilm tier rm

Once a tier has transitioned objects, it cannot be permanently returned to the original tier. To temporarily return objects to the original tier, use mc ilm restore.

Once a tier has received objects, it cannot be removed.

MinIO AIStor refuses to remove a tier while any bucket has a lifecycle rule that references the tier. If a Transition or NoncurrentVersionTransition rule names the tier as its storage class, the command fails with the XMinioAdminTierReferencedByLifecycle error and identifies the referencing bucket. To remove the tier, first clear the referencing lifecycle rule from the bucket with mc ilm rule rm, then retry mc ilm tier rm.

Syntax

The following example removes an existing remote tier called WARM-TIER on the myaistor deployment. No objects have transitioned to the WARM-TIER tier.

mc ilm tier rm myaistor WARM-TIER

The command has the following syntax:

mc ilm tier rm TARGET TIER_NAME

Parameters

The command accepts the following arguments:

TARGET

Required

The alias of a configured MinIO AIStor deployment on which the desired tier exists.

TIER_NAME

Required

The name of an existing remote tier to remove.

You must specify the tier in all-caps, for example, WARM_TIER.

No object can have transitioned to the tier.

Global flags

This command supports any of the global flags.

Behavior

S3 compatibility

This command uses a MinIO AIStor administrative API and does not work against other S3-compatible services.

Required permissions

MinIO AIStor requires the following permissions scoped to to the bucket or buckets for which you are creating lifecycle management rules.

MinIO AIStor also requires the following administrative permissions on the cluster in which you are creating remote tiers for object transition lifecycle management rules:

For example, the following policy provides permission for configuring object transition lifecycle management rules on any bucket in the cluster:.
