Hardware and System Requirements

This section provides guidance around recommended hardware configurations in production AIStor Server deployments.

Hardware recommendations

The recommendations below reflect our experience with assisting enterprise customers in deploying on a variety of IT infrastructures while maintaining the desired SLA/SLO.

Use the recommended configurations below as a guideline for the physical or virtual hosts supporting the AIStor Server deployment. Use the Erasure Code Calculator to provide baseline guidance for the number of hosts and drives necessary to meet your storage and availability requirements.

HardwareDescriptionRecommendation
CPUServer-grade CPU with support for modern SIMD InstructionsSingle Socket with ≥64 cores and ≥128 PCIe lanes
NetworkHigh-Speed infrastructure including NIC, Switches, and Routers100 GbE / 400GbE
StorageDirect-Attached Storage on each host30.72TB / 61.44 TB / 122.88 TB NVMe 4.0 or 5.0 drives
MemoryFree memory available for use by the AIStor Server process256GiB or more

While AIStor Server may run on less than the minimum recommended hardware, any potential cost savings come at the risk of decreased reliability, performance, or overall functionality.

Hardware impact

The following areas have the greatest impact on AIStor Server performance, listed in order of importance:

DeviceImpact
Network InfrastructureInsufficient or limited throughput constrains performance
Storage ControllerOld firmware, limited throughput, or failing hardware constrains performance and affects reliability
Storage (Drive)Old firmware, or slow/aging/failing hardware constrains performance and affects reliability
